Tasty recipe for road-killed toads

RoadkillFrogTo mark the Toad Massacre season which is well underway I offer this recipe.

Cyclists are fortunate in being able to observe much of interest that motorists don’t  see at all and can easily gather ingredients for this healthy snack.

Carry a spatula in your pannier and you will be all set.

heat oven to 350 degrees.  cut stems off of KALE (ha ha, were you fooled?), wash, dry well, brush with olive oil.  bake on a cookie sheet for about ten minutes; however, watch to make sure the “toads” are crisp and not burnt.

I’d like to take the opportunity to welcome a new subscriber to my blog –  Hi Michaela! – and to thank Richard very much for his help getting me started.  I also want to salute all the kind and considerate motorists I meet in my travels.  Especially on the West Island of Montreal, so many of them wave me through stop signs when they can see that stopping and starting again costs me far more energy than it does them.

McGill Bird Observatory Maintenance DayHi, everybody!

on Saturday I participated in Maintenance Day at McGill Bird Observatory.  We spread gravel on the paths to make them less slippery.  I brought my shovel on my bike.  When the temperature drops to freezing or below, I put studded tires on my bike.  They are most effective on icy surfaces!  I will post a photo of them soon.

carrying stuff on a bike

cropped-bikewtires.jpgPeople sometimes think you can’t carry stuff on a bike – that you need a car for errands.  Wrong!  carrying stuff on a bike can be a fun challenge.  bringing a couple of spare tires bikeWtireshome is nothing.  the difficult item I have carried is a large washtub.  I would love to hear what you have carried on your bike – besides yourself!
